Band: ReCreation Jazz Projekt
This band will be playing tunes that fit into the style of Classic/Contemporary Jazz, Blues, and Fusion.
Members consist of:
Jay DeWald, on trumpet and flugelhorn, is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and received his Master's degree from the University of the Pacific. While in Boston, he performed with and recorded two albums with Warner Bros. Recording Artist Swallow and has played and/or recorded with groups such as Aerosmith, New York Rock Ensemble, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Martin Mull, Livingston Taylor, The James Montgomery Band, and others.
Special Guest artist Barry Finnerty is an American jazz guitarist, keyboardist, singer, songwriter, and arranger, known for his work as a touring and recording session musician for Miles Davis, The Crusaders, the Brecker Bros., Billy Cobham, Hubert Laws, and Ray Barretto. Finnerty is the author of books on music improvisation and a semi-autobiographical novel.
Michael Otwell is on tenor saxophone and flute and is a graduate of San Jose State College and the leader of his fusion jazz group Sour Diesel, playing extensively throughout Northern California. Michael and Jay also performed together in the local jazz group Jazz Artistry and recorded on their CD/album “Pathways.”
Kerry Kashiwagi is on double bass. Kerry, an excellent bassist, performed most recently with the Dave Bass Trio as well as recording three albums/CDs with the group (Dave Bass Vol.1, 2, and 3). Kerry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in jazz studies from Pacific's Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music Degree in jazz performance from Sacramento State. He plays abundantly throughout the Sacramento area, and you are bound to see him whenever attending jazz concerts. So, don’t miss him here.
Gabe Carpenter is on percussion. He is the Music Director at Cosumnes Oaks High School, a graduate from CSUS (State School of Music), private drum teacher, and an active gigging musician in the greater Sacramento area. He and Barry also perform together at the SacYard Community Tap House as the house band every Wednesday night
